A perfectly chosen theatre for this incredibly impacting and emotional contempory dance By Collision Dance Theatre. With such closeness to the stage floor it was so intimate and hard to not be drawn into the dramatic Romeo and Juliet story line and feel like you were somehow emotionally going through it all with them.
From a photographers view point it was such a wonderful shoot for many reasons. Main one, and usually the most important in any sitting was and is the lighting- wow, such fun. It was bold, and timed beautifully, never detracting or distracting from the on stage performance but rather wonderfully empowering it. There also wasn’t the extra curtains and wings that a “classic stage” usually has so much more of that beautiful lighting got to be used. Another reason was the freedom I had being a dress run was being able to move around the theatre and see and capture moments from many audience view points.
From a dancers point of view it was gorgeously and artistically choreographed. You could see just how much the choreographers worked to the unique and individual strengths of each of the performers. Never once was the story lost or confused, and never did the emotion leave the movement.
It really was such a wonderful art piece that if you missed out on seeing it, you really did miss out.
Congratulations to all involved.
